V dňoch 19. – 24. marca 2023 sa v Košiciach uskutočnilo druhé stretnutie v rámci projektu Erasmus+. Zúčastnili sa ho žiaci a učitelia z Nemecka, Litvy a Slovenska. Žiaci z partnerských škôl boli ubytovaní v hostiteľských rodinách. Pre našich hostí sme pripravili zaujímavý program, ktorom nechýbala prehliadka Košíc, Prešova a návšteva Vysokých Tatier.
Naďalej sme však pokračovali v hlavnej téme nášho projektu Po stopách židovskej histórie v Európe V košickej synagóge sme si s pani Jankou Teššerovou pripomenuli tragický osud židovskej komunity v našom meste počas druhej svetovej vojny a postavu maliarskeho génia Ľudovíta Felda. Na Alžbetinej ulici nás zase zaujal výnimočný projekt pamätných kameňov Stolpersteine, ktoré sú tam uložené ako nenápadná spomienka pred domom obetí nacistov.
V Prešove sme navštívili jednu z najkrajších ortodoxných synagóg a vypočuli si veľa zaujímavostí o židovskom náboženstve. Pred synagógou sme si pri pamätníku uctili tisícky obetí holokaustu z Prešova a okolia.
Poslednou zastávkou bola železničná stanica v Poprade. Práve odtiaľ bol 25. marca 1942 vypravený prvý transport s mladými židovskými dievčatami do vyhladzovacieho tábora v poľskom Osvienčime. Deportáciu ich prežilo len niekoľko, väčšina zahynula.
Len desaťročia nás delia od obdobia, kedy boli ľudia zabíjaní v koncentračných táboroch. Všetko to začalo slovami a končilo fyzickou likvidáciou. Ak nechceme, aby sa tragická história zopakovala, postačí nešíriť nenávisť a nepodceňovať váhu slov. Je lepšie sa z histórie poučiť, ako ju opakovať.
Erasmus+ Project Meeting in Košice
From 19 to 24 March 2023, the second meeting within the Erasmus+ project took place in Košice. It was attended by students and teachers from Germany, Lithuania, and Slovakia. The students from partner schools were accommodated in host families. We prepared an interesting programme for our guests, which included tours of Košice and Prešov and a trip to the High Tatras.
We continued with the main theme of our project: In the Footsteps of Jewish History in Europe. In the Košice Synagogue, we remembered the tragic fate of the Jewish community in our city during the Second World War and the genius painter Ľudovít Feld with Mrs Janka Teššerová. On Alžbetina Street, the extraordinary project of the “Stolpersteine” memorial stones, which were laid there as an inconspicuous memorial in front of the house of Nazi victims, caught our attention.
In Prešov, we visited one of the most beautiful Orthodox synagogues and found out many interesting facts about the Jewish religion. At the memorial in front of the synagogue, we honoured the thousands of Holocaust victims from Prešov and its surrounding area.
Our last stop was the railway station in Poprad. It was from there that on 25 March 1942 the first transport with young Jewish girls was sent to the extermination camp in Auschwitz, Poland. Only few survived the deportation, the majority perished.
Only decades have passed since the time when people were killed in concentration camps. It all started with words and ended with physical annihilation. If we do not want the tragic history to repeat itself, it is enough not to spread hate and not to underestimate the power of words. It is better to learn from history than to repeat it.
